I was just in Japan last month seeing the culture, and the people in Kyoto transported me back to when I read the book. Another great book was a gift given to my daughter from her "padrino," and it's the cutest kids book: A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo by Marlon Bundo with Jill Twiss. Indispensable for the design library. The Private World of Yves Saint Laurent & Pierre Berge (2009). Lucciano Giubbilei: The Art of Making Gardens (2016). Bruno Moinard: From Line to Light (2016). François Catroux (2016). BENTLEY TIBBS Architect Reading now. Ta-Nehisi Coates' We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy (2017).Very timely — a thoughtful and rigorous look at part of our history that we should still be learning from. Best book in a while. Peter Liem's Champagne (2017), which is more of a reference book. Wonderful and accessible history of the sparking wine and the iconic region it's produced in. Vintage books. I am lucky to have several volumes from my late former boss' collection. Frank Welch was a voracious reader and acquirer of books. His copy of Texas Homes of the 19th Century by PAPERCITY'S PICKS Reading now. The Road by Cormac McCarthy (2007). Next in the lineup. Robin by Dave Itzkoff (2018). The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin (2018). We Were the Lucky Ones by Georgia Hunter (2018). Best books in a while. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (2017). In my library. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway. The Complete Stories of Truman Capote. Island Hopping: Amanda Lindroth Design (Vendome Press, September 2018). We first saw houses designed by Lindroth while in Lyford Cay, but her stunning work shows up in Antiqua, Harbour Island, Palm Beach, and Southampton. Amanda Lindroth will sign her book in Dallas at the Quadrille showroom Wednesday, September 26. Verre Grenney: On Decorating (Rizzoli, September 2018). This is the first book from English designer Verre Grenney, who trained under David Hicks and was a director at Colefax and Fowler. Verre Grenney will sign his book at Schumacher Dallas Thursday, October 4. Paloma Contreras: Dream Design Live by Paloma Contreras (Abrams, September 2018). Houston-based designer Paloma Contreras has had a meteoric rise, from author of the popular design blog La Dolce Vita to being named to this year's Elle Decor A List. Drury Blakeley A l e x a n d e r (1966), is a m u s t - r e a d for any Texas regionalist. And his three-volume set about Sir Edwin Lutyens is pretty wonderful also. For the fall. I'm anxiously awaiting Helen Thompson's follow-up to her successful book, Marfa Modern, with photos by Casey Dunn (2016). The new book, Texas Made/Texas Modern (October 2018), focuses on architecture of the Texas Ranch. 55
