34 MAGNUM OPUS BY CATHERINE D. ANSPON. PHOTOGRAPHY JENNY ANTILL CLIFTON. T alk about seeing double. The biography of the spring — journalist William Middleton's epic Double Vision, more than a decade in the making — brings the late patrons and humanitarians Dominique and John de Menil to life. For the occasion, the author was cele- brated in an intime cocktail party and dinner in the Château dining room at La Table restaurant. Middleton, in from Manhattan, signed books and chatted with denizens of the social and art worlds. After the signing, Middleton's nearest and dearest stayed on for a very civilized dinner party. THE A (AS IN ART) LIST: Rania Daniel, Linda McReynolds, Becca Cason Thrash, Mary Hale McLean, Sir Mark Haukohl, Leigh and Reggie Smith (just back from Art Basel Hong Kong), Sara Dodd, Marc Nguyen, Catherine and Brian James, Carol Isaak Barden, Greg Fourticq Jr. and John Cone, Jackson Hicks and Milton Townsend, Christie's Jessica Phifer, Richard Flowers, artist Selven O'Keef Jarmon, Carrie and Sverre Brandsberg-Dahl (he assisted Middleton's meticulous research by guiding him to a French-speaking geophysicist regarding Schlumberger family scientific history), gallerists Barbara Davis and Deborah Colton, DeeAnn Thigpen, and architect/ writer Ben Koush.
