PHOTO FINISH A picture-perfect evening was in store when Houston Center for Photography's 37th Annual Fine Print Auction convened at the Briar Club. Chairs Shelley Calton and Stuart Nelson (who's also HCP board president) honored HCP founding member and Rice University photo professor Peter Brown, whose lifetime dedication to photography and writing has bolstered the regional photo community for more than three decades. Top lots included an Adam Fuss print, nabbed by former HCP director Bevin Dubrowski, and works from artists Libbie Masterson, Arthur Meyerson, and Jan Rattia, among others, which netted in total more than $200,000 for the venerable institution. Ready for their close-up: HCP director Ashlyn Davis, Kerry Inman and Denby Auble, Mercedes Paul, Steven Evans, Cindy Lisica, Rainey Knudson, and auctioneer Phillips' Sarah Krueger. LIFE ON MARS I nspired by the colorful, immersive worlds of four artists across multiple disciplines — David Bowie, Anish Kapoor, Yayoi Kusama, and James Turrell — Lawndale's spring benefit encouraged guests to dress in color and light. The edict brought a sense of fun and iconoclasm to the proceedings, which stretched across the Lawndale campus, from the sculpture garden to the first- and second-floor galleries. Illa and Will Gaunt and Eleanor Williams chaired the evening, which honored MaryRoss Taylor and culminated with an after-party chaired by Natalie and Jamey Steen. Almost 200 vied for on-site commissioned portraits by Emily Peacock and artworks by Kelly Anderson-Staley and Rachel Hecker. In the infinity room: Katie Barnhart, Nick Adair, Amber Olson, Tony Sonnenberg, Chris Goins and Josh Pazda, Kelly Gale Amen, District Attorney Kim Ogg, and Cali Pettigrew.
